Conservative MP Scott Aitchison & Shadow Minister of Housing
Stephen Jagger, Co-Founder of addy, received an invitation to partake in a Federal Housing Policy Roundtable alongside Conservative MP Scott Aitchison, who currently serves as the Shadow Minister of Housing. The gathering took place in West Vancouver and was orchestrated by Keith Roy. Keith Roy is a familiar figure among addy members, being the General Partner of The Cambie Apartments, a respected local Realtor, and presently a contender for the Conservative nomination in the ‘West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country’ riding.
Event Recap
The event, held at Royal LePage Sussex in West Vancouver, and moderated by Keith Roy, Conservative nomination candidate for for West Vancouver – Sunshine Coast – Sea to Sky Country featured a casual conversation with Scott Aitchison, Member of Parliament for Parry Sound—Muskoka and the Shadow Minister of Housing. Aitchison and Roy discussed housing, immigration, and potential government actions. They addressed questions primarily related to housing affordability, suggesting collaboration between federal, provincial, and municipal levels to ease zoning, allocating federal funds for transit projects aligned with density plans, and emphasized the “missing middle” housing. According to Roy and Atichison, a Conservative federal government will:
- Fire Gatekeepers
- Build Homes. Fast.
The suggested they could do this by:
- Tying federal infrastructure dollars paid to municipalities to their ability to approve and build housing by penalizing municipalities that don’t approve and build homes and providing a building bonus to the ones the do.
- Sell off 15% of the Federal governments 37,000 buildings and convert them into affordable housing.
- Stop printing money and inflationary deficits.

What is a Shadow Minister?
The concept of a shadow cabinet or shadow ministry is a fundamental element within the framework of the Westminster system of governance. It entails a distinguished assembly of opposition representatives who, led by the Leader of the Opposition, establish a substitute cabinet to the governing one. This group emulates and observes the stances of each member in the official Cabinet. Corresponding to the ministries of the ruling party, their designated spheres of authority might be termed shadow portfolios.
