Loss Of GDP Momentum Could Mean Lower Interest Rates Come June: Economists

As we head further into the spring selling season, all eyes of those in real estate are on the Bank of Canada’s next move on the interest rate front – and gross domestic product (GDP) has a big part to play. This morning, Statistics Canada (StatCan) reported that real GDP rose 0.2% in February. According to StatCan, February’s expansion came as services-producing industries increased 0.2%, helped by gains in transportation and warehousing. (Storeys)

Mathyssen says Liberals need to make good on housing promises in federal budget

While the federal NDP said it has not decided whether it will support the Liberals’ federal budget tabled last week, London Fanshawe New Democrat MP Lindsay Mathyssen said the party needs to see more. (CTV)

Ontario Building More Supportive Housing in Thunder Bay

Thunder Bay, ON — The Ontario government is providing a total of $9,238,000 under the Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP) to help create a combined 52 supportive housing units in Thunder Bay. Funding will support the most vulnerable individuals, such as those experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. (Ontario Government)

Freeland moves for separate Commons vote on capital gains tax changes

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland intends to ask Parliament to approve proposed changes to capital gains taxation in a stand-alone bill — a move that will force the federal Conservatives to take a specific position on the measure. (CBC)
