Posthaste: Bank of Canada expected to cut interest rates as tariff threat looms

With the looming threat of a 25% U.S. tariff, economists predict the Bank of Canada may cut interest rates on Jan 29th to mitigate potential recession risks, despite signs of economic growth and inflation pressures. (Financial Post)

 

Canadian Real Estate Sellers Canceled 1 In 5 Listings Last Month: NBF

Frustrated real estate sellers across the country have canceled 1 in 5 listings without a sale. Many waiting for cheaper mortgages and improved demand in the Spring may be in for a surprise (Better Dwelling). 

500,000 fewer homes needed in Canada by 2035 as population set to decline:

According to Oxford Economics, Canada is going to need 500,000 fewer homes by 2035, driven by a significant decline in population, the first since Canada’s Confederation in 1867, due to changes in immigration policy (Canadian Mortgage Trends).

When it comes to addressing housing affordability and supply issues, Canada should consider creating more big cities, according to a new study. This should be performed beyond simply growing the existing major urban centres of Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, as well as Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Ottawa. (Daily Hive)

Getting approval to add floors means more units can be sold on the same site and there is more money to be made from it.
